I'm Davide Martini, and I am enthusiastic about Clipflair. I want to test it with a work I'm realizing about Italian colloquial expressions taught to Spanish native speakers. I'm using for that excerpt of Manuale d'Amore, a 2005 very successful Italian movie by Giovanni Veronesi.
Now, provided I want to use "less than 3 minutes" excerpts from the movie for didactic purpose (this will imply to transcribe the dialogues, revoicing and recaptioning...)... will it be considered "fair use"? I have to say that as the work will increase, many excerpt of the first part of the movie will be included, making the whole story understandable. The understanding of the story is, in fact, the way to check the understanding of the language and cultural facts that are shown in the movie.
Until what portion of excerpts will I be able to upload before it would be out of the "fair use" rule? I'm not able to figure out, and I think someone else must tell.
On the other side, which format should I submit them? I have them already cutted on a YouTube private list (only those with the right link can see it), otherwise I can provide a separate file from my computer. Where should I send it? Can it be a link from my dropbox?
I got the full movie by converting the files from my DVD. I don't know if even this was illegal somehow. The fragments on YouTube are from another DVD... it is not easy to download them - any software for it seems to fail after two or three tries.
I would be very grateful for any anwser, even if partial.
Looking forward to use clipflair, I thank you in advance,
Hi Davide, 3min excerpt for educational use should be ok for long movies, but if you put many excerpts online you have the risk of people capturing and merging them, esp if you use excerpts that are continuous in time
the other thing is that some studios don't like people using excerpts other than their official trailers, but if that's from 8 years ago I guess it's ok, as long as you don't spoil the plot
Note that I have recently added button to open a local video file at the back of the Clip component (use wrench button on its titlebar to flip it over). However user will need to manually open the video then after opening the activity.
In general prefer MP4 files, can use free MiroVideoConverter tool to convert from other formats (it's a nice frontend UI, uses ffmpeg under the hood)
You can also use a public link shared from your Dropbox.
For a small number of ~3min excerpts, you can also use our video gallery by submitting clip for consideration at suggest material forum, attatching clips as mp4 to a post under video topic. Name files using CamelCase style with no spaces or punctuation, e.g BigBackBunny.mp4
Thank you very much for your answer, and please forgive me for my long silence.
I'm just overbusy.
Soon, I'll be able to be back on this, but I can anticipate you that the shared Dropbox link doesn't work. I can't know if it's my pc's problem, but it seems unlikely, since I use public Dx links daily.
(This is just a test file, not the one(s) I'd like to submit. No subtitles on the "real" ones).
Please allow me some days, and I'll be able to get fully into this again.
Just tried that link on my Windows Phone, the file downloads, but won't play
The WMV format can use various codecs which may not exist at the target platform (e.g. the Windows/Mac Silverlight platform that ClipFlair Studio uses).
I suggest you convert the file to MP4 with the free MiroVideoConverter tool and use that one instead
btw, when I wrote "small number of ~3min excerpts" at some post above, I meant from the same movie.
Thank you George. It may be a codec problem, then.
I'll try the conversion. I have also to address the problem to transform youtube fragments into mp4 files on my pc (youtube downloaders work uneliabily, say "no video" on a Youtube link...).
MiroVideoConverter can't install because of "not enough disk space" (which can't be true, since I have more than 100Gb free on my hardisk).
I have heard this is a little bug that can be solved, but I don't know how.
What a hard way... :-).
Done. I had to shut of the anti-virus. I installed it from its own page, however, since it was impossible at first, I tried from Softonic, and it was a great loss of time. Both the original software and the Softonic Installer are detected as infected. I installed it anyway, and I am converting the full movie.
In short time, I'll have the cuts in mp4 format.
Ok, I finally have a short clip from the movie in mp4 format placed in my public DX folder.
The link is:
Now, if I clic on "Add clip", it opens authomatically the demo.
Can you please tell me how to avoid this?
