The task involves watching a scene from a film entitled "Before Sunrise" and trying to add subtitles in the student's first language. The characters in the clip are speaking rather fast, so this activity is addressed to B2-C1 level students. Although the activity has been originally designed for students whose native language is Spanish, it could easily be adapted to the needs of other students, regardless of their native tongue. The task involves listening comprehension as well as writing practice. But most importantly, it draws the students' attention to the issue or pragmatic equivalence and encourages them to consider different ways of expressing themselves in English, which is very important at their level.

I would like to add my opinion on the activity accompanying a clip from the movie "Before Sunrise". The students are required to add subtitles to the scene in their native language - it makes the exercise highly versatile and appropriate for speakers of all languages learning English. As my colleague already noticed in the review above, the dialogue is quite fast-paced, so I would recommend this activity for students on more advanced levels. I like the detailed instructions for the students, not only in regards to the content of the task, but also its technical aspects. What is more, there are some very useful remarks about the creation of subtitles, even if someone has not done this kind of activity before. This exercise would be certainly helpful in developing language skills such as listening and oral comprehension, as they have to fully grasp the meaning of the enunciations in order to decide which elements are the most important and therefore should be included in the subtitles.
