British library donates 1 million images from old books (digitized by Microsoft) to the public domain:
http://openeducationeuropa.eu/en/news/over-million-new-images-added-public-domain
http://www.flickr.com/photos/britishlibrary/
they plan to create a digital tagging website (images are already tagged based on their source, but obviously the want to get richer metadata, regarding the content of the images itself)

They donated to the following effort that collects images from public repositories:

Hi Jennifer, what license do these photos have? I see there's an air photo or something there too, so I'm wondering if they have restricted usage rights

Hi George,

The photos are all mine.
I actually took the photo of Bologna from the top of the highest tower of the city which is about 90 metres high (and nearly 500 hundred steps)!

Thanks for asking.

Jennifer

It's part of a number of picture sequences created by the Irish Department of Education and freely available on the internet. They are downloaded by students and teachers to practice for oral exams. There is no information on copyrights that I could find but they are also available on other websites (http://languagesinitiative.ie/italian-senior-cycle/oral-materials/picture-stories-jennies-activities) . I think they must be SA-non commercial
