For more info on DeepZoom also see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Zoom#Deep_Zoom_images
http://www.ted.com/talks/blaise_aguera_y_arcas_demos_photosynth.html

Also, Photosynth is another interesting service (makes point clouds and places images automatically in 3D space to "stitch" as a zoomable panorama) from Microsoft that uses DeepZoom file format I think, so I'll look into displaying image tiles from there too if it's possible:
http://photosynth.net/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynth
Even if we don't manage to harvest DeepZoom data from that service (I'm looking into a related post I've found on how to grab their internal DeepZoom data), the Photosynth application (http://photosynth.net/about.aspx) should be useful for getting DeepZoom collection data out of a bunch of images (say if you have a group of students shoot a monument or find photos of the monument and want to make a Photosynth out of all of them), since it can also save its output locally I think (which you can then contribute to the ClipFlair gallery by zipping it up and attaching to a reply here for me to add to the Gallery)

Other useful s/w for making DeepZoom imagery is ICE (Image Composite Editor)

What is Image Composite Editor?

Microsoft Image Composite Editor is an advanced panoramic image stitcher. Given a set of overlapping photographs of a scene shot from a single camera location, the application creates a high-resolution panorama that seamlessly combines the original images. The stitched panorama can be shared with friends and viewed in 3D by uploading it to the Photosynth web site. Or the panorama can be saved in a wide variety of image formats, from common formats like JPEG and TIFF to the multiresolution tiled format used by Silverlight's Deep Zoom and by the HD View and HD View SL panorama viewers.

Also see http://studio.clipflair.net?image=http://zoom.it/pXjY - Just noticed that at http://zoom.it/pages/create/ it says "We also accept links to PDFs, SVGs and even regular webpages." - So I gave http://clipflair.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/clipflair-newsletter-201212.pdf to zoom.it and I got back a DeepZoom image at http://zoom.it/pXjY.

Unfortunately it only seems to render the first page of the PDF, whereas it could
have created a DeepZoom image collection out of all the PDF pages. So it
is mostly useful for converting PDF posters into DeepZoom images, but
it's a nice to have feature anyway.

The zoom.it service is indeeed impressive, apart from images and PDFs (only 1st page unfortunately), it also takes normal webpage URLs, rendering them as a DeepZoom image (note that ClipFlair Studio's Image component supports zoom.it URLs too).

e.g. at http://studio.clipflair.net?image=http://zoom.it/y8LU you can zoom into a DeepZoom image of our homepage - it shows more or less as it normally is (some dynamic items are missing like the Twitter stream that is rendered at the client-side). To generate that image I just gave http://ClipFlair.net as input to http://zoom.it

Indeed, it gives authors more possibilities. But why is it so blurred in the Studio? (tried it in different  PCs) In Zoom.it it's not blurred

I'll see into adding automatic conversion to DeepZoom versions too so that we can even upload high quality posters there. Do have in mind that you can also use zoom.it service (see previous posts of mine in this thread) for that

The Contoso Fixster - DeepZoom sample - try using the mousewheel to zoom into the smaller bike images
http://studio.clipflair.net/?image=http://seadragon.com/content/images/bike.dzi

when you move the mouse zoom icons also appear at the bottom of the image control (showing over the image), can use the zoom-to-fit button there to restore the zoom level of the image to original
