VOBs are used in DVDs and it's MPEG-2 encoding
So it does need convertion, probably with SUPER or QuickTime Pro from Apple (if you have that [quite cheap btw]). I have key for QuickTime Pro since I was testing it for Apple, so I'll try myself with that in the next days to see if it can make a MPEG-4 out of it.
Problem with convertion is that you need to fiddle with the convertion parameters to achieve the best result (and its always a tradeoff between quality and size)
