Dear George,

Cristina and I are currently piloting the 'Garibaldi' activities.
One of the student saved an activity (http://studio.clipflair.net/?activity=Garibaldi_SUB.clipflair) using Windows XP and when trying to open his activity we get this SRT error message.

I hope you can help us with this matter.

Best.

Jennifer

opening it with a zip program I see the .SRT (inside the Revoicing....clipflair.zip that's inside there) contains:

1
00.00.02,890 --> 00.00.03,870
Yes, Giuseppe spends all day doing puzzle

2
00.00.03,950 --> 00.00.05,570
They're not puzzle mum!

3
00.00.06,130 --> 00.00.08,170
Yes, they are!

4
00.00.08,170 --> 00.00.09,800
Close, it's going to cost us a fortune!

5
00.00.09,340 --> 00.00.13,800
Don't worry, I switched to Tim,
and i can talk to everybody all over Italy for 2€ a week.

6
00.00.13,740 --> 00.00.15,000
But Italy does not exist yet!

7
00.00.15,170 --> 00.00.16,900
So, what are you waiting for?
United for mum!!

8
00.00.16,900 --> 00.00.18,860
It is what I am trying to do.

9
00.00.19,600 --> 00.00.23,770
Sorry about that,
but Giuseppe is at a difficult age... he answers back...

there are two empty lines at the bottom (we've had issues with empty lines before) and the euro symbol that are a bit suspicious. Will see into addressing this issue and let you know

the issue is on our face, but couldn't notice it:

the time values are all wrong, they have 00.00.19,600 instead of 00:00:19,600

since the Captions/Revoicing control doesn't allow one to enter such values, I wonder how they entered them, most probably the wrong values came from the Add Caption button that adds a new caption, or by the Clip component. I will see if I can add some formatting there to force the time format we use

since the movie works fine for others, it isn't an issue with it

there's a chance they have strange setting at the Regional Options in Windows Control Panel. OR ARE THEY USING A MAC?

I don't know about the Regional Options on the pc since it is a college pc. It is not a MAC, it's windows XP.
Thanks for looking into it.

sorry, forgot you had said XP

I don't know if they log in to Windows using a common account or separate ones for each student or class. In that case if they log in again as before (with same credentials), then using ClipFlair and adding some captions, if they save them, then at load they should EVERYTIME see this error. Can you check if this is the case?

also, if it happens every time, I'd like to see what the captions control looks like before they save the activity. On its titlebar there's a screenshot button that they can use to save an image of its display (I want to see if times display correctly or not)

if you have access to that computer, I can instruct you exactly what to check at the regional settings and how

the bug could be at:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/zdtaw1bw(v=vs.95).aspx

but without more examination of the situation I can't be sure (can't find anything I can do at the source code)

Dear George,

Students are usually using their own laptops. However, the message I sent you was taken form a pc in the university.
You can instruct me how to check the regional settings on this pc.

I also had a meeting with the students this morning and I have to report you other problems.

1. Same SRT error but with REVOICING: one student using a Windows 8 laptop saved his activity (revoicing) and sent it to me. When I open his activity I get this SRT error message. Please find the error image and the activity attached. I manage to see the audio files by compressing thw folders, as you suggested for the subtitles

2. One student using a Mac laptop cannot save his activity and he gets this error message (UnauthorizedAccess_IODenied_Path), please see image attached.

There seems to be a problem with Italian pc/laptops. As you probably remember, we also had problems last year when piloting the platform in Italy.

Thank you.

1) this activity also has the same issue with timings using . instead of :
unfortunately in the screenschot I don't see the captions component to see if it displays : or . in the timings

I guess it does display : and the issue is caused at saving time, but I might be wrong. Would be nice if you can ask the student to save a screenshot that shows the captions component if they see this again (does it happen every time on their machine with captions?). Note that the Captions component has a screenshot button on its titlebar with which you can save an image of it (this is not available at all components due to Silverlight DRM [digitral rights management] restrictions with external content)

2) the Mac issue (since from what I understand other Mac users can save fine to their desktop?) is very strange. Can they try saving at their user folder instead?

The italian pcs/laptops issue you mention isn't separate from what I undertand, but the two issues above are on machines with Italian regional settings and probably also (not that it makes a difference) italian lanuage in the OS?
