Dear George,

we are piloting the activities and we have had the following problems:
1) on some computers in the university rooms (windows 7-8 with cable and wifi internet connection) the video in our links (for instance http://studio.clipflair.net/?activity=Garibaldi_DUB.clipflair.zip)
just won't start;
2) on some computers (both PCs from home and university rooms) it is impossible to visualize the buttons that allow users to work with the videos (to revoice, caption etc.)

Many thanks for your help.

Jennifer and Cristina

Dear George,

Please find attached the error messages we get when trying to open activities that students have saved.
These are the two activities (captioning and revoicing):

http://studio.clipflair.net/?activity=Garibaldi_SUB.clipflair.zip

http://studio.clipflair.net/?activity=Garibaldi_DUB.clipflair.zip

The students also told us that the video would not load on their Pcs.

Thanks.

Jennifer

The two URLs from the gallery you posted above do open fine, do you have the files your students saved for me to look at? From the pictures attached it seems to be something related to parsing the SRT format the Captioning component uses to store the captions. If I have those files I can pinpoint exactly what causes the issue (probably some text they were using? I just remembered there was at some point some thing with adding multiple blank lines in a caption, have to try that to see if it causes an issue)

Also, when sending error message I prefer to get a text copy of the details (you can press CTRL+A and then CTRL+C inside the details textbox to copy the error trace [I will see into adding a copy to clipboard button there])

on such a computer that has issue, you should 1st open up a new web browser page and check that the media URL it uses, e.g. http://gallery.clipflair.net/video/Video_TIM_Garibaldi/Video_TIM_Garibaldi.ism/Manifest in the case of the Garibaldi_DUB activity is accessible, that is trying this URL in the browser address bar should return for example:

Also, since ClipFlair Studio by default tells Silverlight to use hardware acceleration, if there's some issue with the video card driver on a specific machine, then you maybe have a problem with the video playback or with zooming etc. I'll see into adding some way to switch off hardware acceleration from the ClipFlair launch URL.

In the mean time you could tell your support department to look into updating graphics drivers for those machines (e.g. if they use a NVIDIA card and they are desktop [not laptop] machines, one can use the "automatically find drivers" utility (for "graphics drivers") from http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk. Similarly if they have some Intel graphics card they could use http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect (this can also help in other cases since it also updates CPU related files for Windows). To install such updates you have to be logged in with an administrative account and best is to use Internet Explorer when accessing the autoupdate utilities (they usually run as ActiveX controls in it). Also for ATI graphics card drivers (now AMD), one can use http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx for autoupdate. Note that for laptops that use NVIDIA and ATI graphics chips it is prefered to install updates for NVIDIA and ATI/AMD graphics drivers from the support websites of the specific laptop manufacturers (cause they customize the graphics hardware in the laptop), although some laptops do support the same graphics drivers as the desktop machines.

btw, on Windows 8 one should use the classic desktop version of Internet Explorer (not the Metro app version of it which doesn't support plugins like Silverlight at all)

Please find one student's activity attached. I can't manage to upload the other (in clipflair format file rather than zip). In case I can email that to you.

Thanks for your advice, we will inform the support team and let you know.

Regards,

Jennifer

just rename the .clipflair to .clipflair.zip and attach here, or open in clipflair and at save dialog use the dropdown menu at the bottom to save to .clipflair.zip (macos-x only works well with .clipflair extension, they are the exact same file in fact, that is they both are zip archives)
